Bog Standard Facilities
Good quality school toilet facilities and access to them are vital to pupils’ health. Many children and young people avoid using the toilets at school because they are dirty, smelly, are not private enough, or are a source of bullying and other anti-social behaviour.
This can lead to serious health problems, both now and later in life.
Currently, there is no UK legislation governing the hygiene standards of school toilets for children. There is nothing to specify that they have to be suitable, accessible, clean or properly maintained.
This unacceptable situation has significant social implications and contributes to 1 in 12 children nationally (1 in 7 in the 5 years to 7 years age group) suffering from some form of incontinence or bed wetting (Source: ERIC).
The unhygienic state and inaccessibility of so many school toilets is a major contributor to sickness and absenteeism. Albany Healthy Schools is dedicated to raising the hygiene standards of school washrooms throughout Britain.
We are currently working with and are a major sponsor of Bog Standard, promoting better toilets for pupils. Together we have completed the definitive Cleaning Standards for School Toilets - click here to download your copy.
